BFSC: Heels with Short Shorts

Girlfriends, it's hot! Really hot. So I'm going to try to take a couple of decent photos so I can get back inside to the A/C.

You know you're deep into blogging when you go out and purchase a piece of clothing just so you can participate in a style challenge! That's how I ended up with these shorts. Everybody's having so much fun with Jasifer's Big Fat Summer Challenge I just had to join in. But one of the items to wear is short shorts. Well, let me just say I stopped wearing those 30 years ago and since then, have kept the length of shorts I wear to  just above the knee. So, you see, for me these are short shorts.
I found the length of them acceptable, even though they are waaaay out of my comfort zone. To my surprise when I wore them out in public, nobody was gaping in horror or snickering behind my back (I think).  Strangely enough, at the market, people were more concerned with picking out the right watermelon and getting the best sale on hot dogs than the length of my shorts or the spider veins and cellulite on my thighs. Amazing! I also wore them out to dinner last night, but the restaurant was dark, so I didn't know if that was a true testing ground.
Oh! I should also mention I don't never wear heels with shorts, not even with the longer length I'm comfortable with. When all's said and done, I feel pretty good about this outfit. I'll probably take the shorts for another trial run tomorrow.
I'm marking "short shorts" and "something I normally wouldn't wear" off the list. Yay!

Wondering what that thing is I'm holding? It's an old glass float I snagged at a yard sale this weekend.

I'll be taking these little yellow shorts to Patti's Visible Monday. Come join me.

  1. How pretty! The colors go well together and echoing the shorts in the earrings and the top in the shoes is inspired. Beautiful Summer outfit. You're on my Best Dressed List!

  2. I don't think those shorts are too short at all! You look radiant in yellow too.
Speaking of spider veins I have an abundance of them. I once went as far as getting the injections to get rid of them. For one whole year I had scarring which I didn't feel comfortable showing. The following year they just came right back!

Looks like you have a peaceful view out your back deck. ;) Hopefully no tics.

    1. Tics are just about gone. I do love that view. We should open the curtains more so we can see it.

  3. It looks great--although I have similar ideas about shorts. (For me, the key to wear shorts that are big around on my leg). Have never tried shorts with heels!

  4. Terri, I do believe you're right about that. As long as they're not too tight around the thigh they work out much better.

  7. You look amazing Sheila!! You got "Legs" (to quote a ZZTop song)
For a brief moment I thought the float was a really cool purse you thrifted!!
Ya think it will ever cool down here in Virgina/Maryland??

    1. I sure hope so Tamera. I'm used to heat, but the humidity just kills me.

  8. Your legs look great in those shorts, and with the heels. Your wit is as sharp as your style! I wore heels with shorts in the 70's, so it's been a long time. Probably not going there, but I've been doing sleeveless since the heat topped 100 degrees.

    1. Judith, I think you could definitely go there! That would be a pretty stylish look with one of your hats.

  9. I know a cool 69-year-old woman who wears short-shorts all the time and says I should try them... Waaay past my comfort zone but never say never. You look great in this outfit and I like the heels with the shorts - your legs go on and on.

  15. I like your glass float. I was wondering if an artisan had opened up the glass bubble and made it into a purse!

    1. Hi Kathleen. Thanks for stopping by. You're not the only one who that that! When you see them in all the department stores, remember where you saw it first!

  16. I don't own any shorts! What is wrong with me? I dunno. A long time ago, I read an article about why French women are so chic, and it said that shorts are an American fashion disaster, and there you go, see how easily influenced I am?

But you look beautiful. Your glass ball did take me aback briefly. My dad has two, and I thought you had turned one into a purse...lol.

  17. Thanks Lynne. That's everybody reaction so far to that ball! LOL.

  18. Nobody in a million years would dream you didn't wear shorts like these all the time, that's how good they look! That's one of the fabulous things about blogging, getting us out of our comfort zones. Not only that, you thrifted everything. I love the whole outfit and the way you've picked up the colors again in the accessories. Plus, I don't think of wedges as "heels". I think of them as slanted flats and perfect with shorts.

    ReplyDelete
  19. LOL! I like your idea Jean about the wedges as slanted flats.

  20. I always love shorts with heels/wedges! Your legs just look so amazingly long! I also love the colour matching with the earrings matching the shorts and the shoes matching the shorts. Adorable.

  23. Sheila: You look really great! You styled the shorts fabulously with the top and matching accessories. You are also brave - I checked out that list and practically everything is outside my comfort zone - except maybe the maxi dress.
