No folks, it's not Christmas just yet, but I was getting a feeling of comfort and joy from this outfit. Comfort from this old denim shirt that has just the perfect amount of wear and softness plus a couple of holes in just the right places (thrifted that way) and also from the fact that there wasn't a single thing that was pulling, tugging, riding up, sagging down, rubbing, poking, itching, sratching or restricting about any of these garments. Nope, not a single thing; not even an irritating tag (because I cut them out).
The "joy" part of this outfit, well that came from the polka dots, because everybody knows polka dots = joy.
I wore this a couple weeks back (before the weather got real cold) when I took my dear mother-in-law out to lunch and shopping. We always have a fun time on these little outings. She's full of life stories and at 84 she's still a fashionable lady, so shopping is quite an adventure with her. I tell you friends, it's great when you have in-laws that you like and vice - versa. I equate it with polka dots... a pure joy.
The holidays are fast approaching and things are about to get real hectic for some of us. So, I'll take this opportunity to wish you all the comfort and joy in the world, if not from your in-laws and other relatives, then at least from the clothes you grace your body with.
Do you anticipate spending the holidays with in-laws or out-laws?
New York and Company vest: thrifted
Liz Claiborne denim shirt: thrifted also worn here and here.
Polka dot dress by local company, but can't remember name - cut out the irritating tag: thrifted
Fly London booties: via Saxon Shoes. Sooo comfy!
Vintage Ettienne Aigner purse: thrifted
I'm linking up with Patti's Visible Monday. Come join me.
Bring on the holidays!
Don't you love an outfit that feels good and makes your happy?
ReplyDeleteI love the way you styled this and the booties are so cute.
Gotta love an outfit that feels as good as it looks! I love all your layers Sheila! This is one of your best outfits ever. Your smile shows your comfort and your joy! I love my chambray button down and layering it over polka dots is genius!
ReplyDeleteThose are truly wonderful dots! I love the booties with this too. I'll be visiting my inlaws after Christmas - it's fairly difficult.
ReplyDeleteYes, bring it on! I just did a bit of holiday shopping last night at a candle party. Plus a little sumthin sumthin for myself.
ReplyDeleteI love the dress and boots on you Sheila. Great look. I'm working some lace ups into my wardrobe this year too.
Holes and all this shirt brings this outfit together incredibly! I love it! And those boots! I must have! Lucky you that you have a hip mother in law. I won't even get started on the details of my case. hee hee! I do not welcome spending any holiday time with any relatives of the Significant Other. The last time we did so, it was the hugest snore fest I have ever attended. Sigh. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat layering as always!! I love denim shirts and am inspired to give them a shot, thanks to you. How can you loose with denim and black/white?!! I'm also blessed with great in-laws. Since I was a package deal (bringing 2 small children into the family as well) I've always been so appreciative that they welcomed us so warmly, with open arms.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week!!
ps. I smiled at your Vanessa Williams comment. I used to hear that all the time back then, and I discovered we have to same birthday, only I'm exactly 10 years older.
Oh yeah, comfort and joy. I like that. Great outfit.
ReplyDeleteYour outfit gave me joy!! LOVE it!! I'll be spending it with the family of all sorts--can't wait for the holidays cuz I LOVE them!!
ReplyDeleteI wish my body was like your outfit--nothing sagging, bagging, flopping..... LOLOL
I love everything about this outfit, the relaxed denim shirt, the cool dress, and of course those FLY London booties.
ReplyDeleteYour MIL sounds great. I loved spending time with my MIL before she passed away. So our Christmas is spent with my parents.
You describe comfortable clothing just *perfectly*. And how wonderful that you and your MIL have a good relationship, that's the best. Thanks for sharing your comfort and joy with Visible Monday!
ReplyDeleteOmg my life is all about comfortable outfits. All your outfits look great and I'm sure they're comfortable.
ReplyDeleteLove love love those shoes!
ReplyDeleteWe'll have a sort of Thanksgiving open house this year. My mother will be moving into an apartment in our home. And as part of her house-warming, my siblings and their significant others, and all my nieces and nephews and their spouses and children will be dropping by. Better have a BUNCH of pies!
ReplyDelete"pulling, tugging, riding up, sagging down, rubbing, poking, itching, sratching or restricting about any of these" -- the master list of qualities I'm determined to avoid in clothes, except for the occasional corset :-D
ReplyDeleteSooooooooooooooooo lovely!!!

I love the polka dot dress! I especially like that the polka dots are big and bold. I bet you could wear this dress a million ways - I like the casual look you've created here with the boots and denim shirt, but I can imagine it could be dressed up for evening too.
ReplyDeleteI'm wearing polka dots today! Great minds think alike :-)
ReplyDeletePerfect layering, and I think we have the same boots.

Hi Sheila! I found your blog through either Gracey @ Fashion for Giants or Sheila @ Ephemera, I forget which one now, oops! Anyway, I just signed up to follow your blog and wanted to say hi. Love your sense of style and your funny posts, and especially love finding another style blog by a woman around my own size and age. Not that I have ANYTHING against the younger, smaller set... I look at those, too. But it's great to get outfit ideas I know will work with my, erm... attributes. Hehe. :o)
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I'm an RVA blogger too:) Just thought I'd stop by and say hi!
