Old Dominion Road Trip

Hi Ladies. Isn’t it frustrating when life gets in the way of blogging?! I’ve wanted to post for several days but I've hardly had a spare minute. However, I did find some time to drop by your lovely blogs, which I always find entertaining.
Stephen and I went on one of our weekend road trips exploring the Old Dominion.  It took us several counties over to the south. There’s no outfit pics,  just a few things that caught my eye or made me smile…

As you all know from my last post, I can’t pass up a roadside food stand. The proprietor of this particular place had fresh produce and fresh crabs. I’ve  never had crabs like this before.  It took us a whole hour to eat a dozen. I liken it to eating sunflower seeds. A lot of work for not much payoff, but delish all the same.

This photo is my favorite. Stephen’s and my shadow.  I was in a man-hole-picture-taking mood. I’ll spare you all the photos of the others!

...Ok, just one more.

One of these things is not like the others. Can you spot it?
I’ve learned since moving to this state that Virginians love them some cement yard ornaments. I guess we’re way below the standard in this department. We only have a cement bench.
This place had everything from Indian princesses to pelicans.

What do you think these two ladies talk about all day?

You know I had to squeeze in a pic of an old building, right? They just fascinate the heck out of me.
I would've went in if I hadn't been afraid it was haunted.

Home sweet home. Right back to where we started.
Our yard is 90% forest and these ferns grow wild there. I just love their color. Isn't mama nature amazing?

  2. Love the photos--I'm partial to old houses, too!!
Steven and you didn't pick up some nice cee-ment yard decor?? I'm sure a pelican or two would look AWESOME amongst your ferns and oh so natural!!
    Have a great weekend!

  3. Those manhole photos make me laugh. Way back in the mid 80's I was a bank teller and all these guys use to come in on payday to cash their checks from a company called Fog Tite Meter. Anyway, to make a long story short now every time I see a small style manhole I always look for the Fog Tite Meter company name and think of those rough bearded grizzly looking men. haha
Home sweet home for you now! Put some lovely clothes on to celebrate. ;)

  4. Ninety percent forest for your yard? That's a dream. Manhole covers, mannequins, yard ornaments, and crab! That's a visual feast. But my favourite, the old house... I love old buildings too, such stories they tell.

  6. Mama Nature is amazing. We're just home from a trip to Minnesota and the fern undergrowth in the forests was one of the most intriguing aspects to me. And, like you, I take photos of derelict houses myself.

  7. Thanks for taking us with on your adventure. I had to laugh at your manhole cover photos as I found one in the middle of the street years ago, and my friend and myself loaded it into the car. We just couldn't leave it sitting there and It's now in my garden! Hopefully this was not illegal, as we believed it to be a 'rescue.'

  9. Great shot of the old building. Don't be afraid of ghosts, they are just dead people.
