Ladies, this is a cry for help. I’ve been in a funk lately.
My photos have not been at all to my liking, thus the lack of posting. I finally got one that I was somewhat satisfied with. After analyzing it, I
realized I broke a lot of fashion rules.
Can you spot them? Honestly, I’m
all for breaking fashion rules, just not all at once.
For starters, I’m
wearing a LARGE print on the bottom, something I rarely ever do, but I was
drawn in by the bright fruity/floral print. I remember there was a time when I would
cringe, when I saw someone, especially a middle aged woman, wearing something
like this especially with those elasticized Aerosole type shoes that come in
every color and color combination of the rainbow. Yeah, those ones. Now here I am, middle aged
woman wearing such a thing. Life is so cruel. Well, at least I’m not sporting
the elasticized shoes!
Secondly, I’m
wearing somewhat broad horizontal stripes. This is a rule I often break and
still manage to evade the fashion police, but usually with a solid or small print on the bottom.
Lastly, shoes
with straps at the ankles. Again, I usually get away with this, but not with
capris. If I'm wearing this type of shoe, I'll show a little more leg. At 5’7”, I'm no shorty and I consider my legs to be a reasonable length,
but take it from me, unless you’re a supermodel with super long legs, skip
these kinds of shoes with capris. Come to think of it, even if you are a
supermodel with super long legs, avoid this. In defense of these shoes, they’re
by Korkease and the most comfortable things ever!
This is my first
whiney post ( I think). I try to keep it upbeat, but I just couldn’t keep it in
any longer, plus I figured Monday Mingle, Visible Monday and Thrifters Anonymous would perfect forums for airing my frustrations.
The upside to
this disaster is that I didn’t actually wear it out in public. Whew! Another
good thing is that I’m going to completely deconstruct this outfit and correct
each wrong (suggestions are welcomed). Wow! That’s three posts right there. Now
if I can only get some good pics! Thanks for listening.
What do you do
when you’re in a funk and none of your outfits or photos pan out?
haha you are too funny girl..I actually love this and didn't think twice...haha I feel ya though...I must say now you got me wanting some floral pants!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for linking up sweetie...that is what Thrifters Anonymous is all about...haha

Thanks so much Shana. I'll vote for you of course!
DeleteI like your bold choices. It's a fun outfit. Love your pink raspberry colored blazer.
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa. Thanks. I think when I put this together again. I'll keep the same blazer.
DeleteFirst, I want to say that I love the pink Blazer. I also like all those colors as well. I would totally rock this outfit but with a much smaller patterned pant since I'm only 5'3 so large prints are not a good idea for me. The only thing I would change is the blazer to a white summery cardigan and maybe a pair of black flat sandals. I think mixed prints are the trend now, so you can get away with the stripes and flowers.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right, black flats would be nice. Thanks for the suggestions.
DeleteFound you vie 'Not Dead Yet'!!! Love this look and great new blog. a new follower!

Reva
Reva hello! Thanks so much for stopping by. I'm coming to check out your blog too.
DeletepS, I am a thrift store junkie as well!!!
ReplyDeleteI like all your rule breaking and your colorful outfit! Thanks for linking up to Visible Monday, and please come back again : >
ReplyDeleteThanks Patti. I definitely will. Visible Monday is one of my favorite hang out now!
DeleteYou would think it wouldn't go, but for some reason it does! Maybe because the colour matches are bang on!
ReplyDeleteHi Narda. It's so good to see you again. I know you've been away. Hope every went well. Thanks for the vote of confidence.
DeleteI actually think you look lovely Sheila. I know what you mean though about outfits that you are just not comfortable in and for that reason alone they should be avoided-not at all for "breaking rules." I think the horizontal stripe rule, for one, is just hooey. I love all your bright bold colors and the blazer is fab! What I do when I'm in a fashion rut is take to other forms of inspiration--a magazine, a blog, Pintrest, a show--and start building outfits little by little when I am inspired. Then, when I have a not so inspired day, I can just reach for an already made outfit!
ReplyDeleteI'll do that Frannie Pantz. Lord knows I have enough fashion magazines to refer to!
Delete...and I believe you'd look fabulous in them.

ReplyDeleteYou know it is amazing how a trend can change your mind about certain things. You are working the printed bottoms and the mixed prints! I think you look FAB! I break the ankle strap rule all the time...oh well. I like it. :)

Ariane, Hi. Thanks for stopping by. I'm coming to your blog to have a look around.
DeleteThank goodness you break the rules - you look wonderful in this! My maxim is that rule-breakers are the trendsetters of the future. I saw you at Reva's and Visible Monday. I am following now too!
ReplyDeleteHi Melanie. I'm so glad you stopped by. Your blog is so creative. I think just changing the shoes of this outfit would be a big help. Thanks for your support!
DeleteIf at first you don't succeed, try try again. Or something like that! I think you're so pretty that the outfit is secondary, but that being said, you look great in this one! I love the colors and the combination of stripes and florals.
ReplyDeleteI also read your post about visiting your father-in-law, and it resonated so much!! I was visiting a friend in NY recently, and stopped by to see her 80 yr old mother. I felt uncomfortable in my torn boyfriend jeans, but that's what I had on and I wasn't able to change!
Hope your week is going well!!
Love, Jean
