Country Road

Greetings all, from the back roads of rural Virginia. Today I’m taking my new camera for a spin and also showing off my thrifted  1980’s floral jumpsuit/skort/romper thingy. I got it last fall in anticipation of wearing it this spring. These things are so comfy to wear (but hard to go to the bathroom in) and the length suits my tastes.
I’ve commented on a lot of your blogs recently about how your florals have inspired me. I really meant it. If not for you, I may have never got around to removing the shoulder pads and changing out the buttons on this thing (it took all of 15 minutes) so that I could wear it without embarrassment .  A special thanks to Patti on her recent posts on 1980’s revival. Those were also a big influence.

I’m still trying to figure out clever poses so the remote doesn’t show in my hand.
The girls at Monday Mingle may have some tips.

If I’d known that adding a vintage leather belt (thirfted), denim jacket (Eddie Bauer, clearnce) and espadrille wedges (Mudd via Kohl's) would update an outfit like this, I’d have kept all my clothes from high school!
But then what would I show off on Thrifters Anonymous?

I’m smiling, but all the while praying I don’t get a tick on me (it's that time of the year here). The day I find a tick embedded in my skin, is the day I will ab-so-lutely  FREAK OUT!

This old building is just fantastic and there's plenty of em' here. The peeling paint and multidirectional slats are so cool. Just think of all the old treasures that could be behind those doors.

Hope you all have a great week.
Happy dressing,

    1. Thanks Patti. I really have to find a way to refer to it, because I really don't know what it is!

  3. I love what you did with the jumpsuit. I would have passed over it on the rack but you've really modernized it. I loved wearing skorts back in the day.
My sister did get a tick last year embedded into her neck! Ack! It made her so sick she nearly had to have a type of chemo for it. You be careful out there
And by the way, what's a Ditto?

  4. Dittos are those pants that were really popular in the 70's.

  5. These photos are lovely Sheila! I love the old barn you are standing in front of. My camera doesn't have remote capability. Boo! I LOVE your florals girl! Great with the vintage belt and denim jacket! Hope your shoot was tick free! Love this girl!

  6. We took our dog Ina, a chihuahua on a little walk in a wooded area and by the time we got to the car she was so hot and she just collapsed in front of the car door tired so I thought then I saw a tick crawling by her ear. I was so freaked out that I did a thorough inspection the poor thing had 7 ticks on her. We never returned to that area. I still get chills.

A romper dress? No matter what it's officially called it's right on trend, flower print, check, denim jacket, check, yellow wedges, check. Great ensemble.

  9. That is a fantastic location and your outfit fits it perfectly with its beautiful floral pattern. Great shoes too! I know what you mean about hanging on to old clothes. There should be a reset button, like if you keep them more than ten years, they are considered thrifted. I know that some things in my closet are now considered vintage! Yikes!

  10. If I found a tick on me, that would be IT! I would likely die right then and there haha! I TOTALLY just thrifted one of these skort/romper things the other day! Mine is denim and I'm SO excited to wear it! Love your floral look :)

  11. Yes you have to get rid of the shoulder pads but i keep the buttons- i usually like the buttons it gives it a special charm, but it is a question of taste!
Talking of old building - we have an old stable in our garden converted to a garage
The only changed the doors inside it is all original, full of history - amazing isn't it?

    Take care

  12. Love the floral and denim-it's always good, but you've bumped it up a notch with the styling.

You look relaxed in these pictures so I hope that means the vacation's been good!! Enjoy!!

  16. Such a lovely feminine floral dress. The brown belt is a nice touch and the yellow wedges are perfection.

  17. Lovely photos! I'm quite reluctant with florals, myself, so it's inspiring to see how nicely you are taking to them. I'm also envious of your remote picture-taker. (I only rarely do self-timer photos because they're SO slow and tedious -- not good when there are ticks around!) Love how the cheery wedges and denim jacket look with the floral print.

  18. OMG. I have finally found another blogger from Virginia. I wish there were more of us here. I have to agree with you about keeping all of your clothes from high school-it seems like everything is coming around full circle.

  19. Eh, TICKS! Dear Hubby went camping this weekend, but now after reading an article in today's paper about the wildfire spread of ticks (must be competing heavily with cockroaches), I'm terrified of his camping gear :o

Love the new camera pics, and the floral with the denim. As a child of the 80s, I'm like, embarrassed to wear wut? :P
