Shop Like a (Thrifty) Fashion Editor: Part 3

Can you believe we're almost half way through the year? It's nearly the end of June and I'm just now showing you May's thrifty buys! Well, time flies when you're shopping like a fashion editor. Part 1 and part 2 are here.
If you're wondering what this post is all about here's a quick recap: One of my favorite magazines, InStyle features an article titled "Shop like a Fashsion Editor". Three editors are given a budget of $400, $2,000 and $4,000 respectively. Each editor in turn shares what has “inspired” them and then goes about finding key clothing pieces within their budget. This is an ongoing thing lasting 4 months or so. The funds are spread accordingly, ie: approximately $100 of the $400 budget gets spent per month. You might be thinking, "But wait a minute, I don't have a $4,000 clothing budget or even $400". Not a problem. How about $50? Heck you could probably skate by with $25.
It was all about florals this month for me. And my inspiration was the many bloggers I've seen doing this trend up. Here's how I made $50 bloom into a fabulous bouquet of style:

 

Rene Margo floral shirt: 5.00

I found this at an antique store of all places. More and more you’ll find at least a few stalls dedicated to clothing especially in the bigger "mall" type antique stores.  This blouse makes me insanely happy just looking at it.

 

Elle maxi dress: 6.99

You’ve seen me sport this one already here. I was about to walk out of the thrift store and this dress caught my eye on the way out. It may have even called my name.

 

Floral capris: 5.99

Here I go again. I'm determined to wear a pair of floral pants this season (the right way). I like them much better than the ones I wore here.

 

George paisley/floral skirt: 4.49

I recognize this as a Walmart brand. How come I never see cute stuff like this when I’m in there?

No label shirt: 4.49

If you’ve noticed by my last couple of posts, I’m deep into blues right now. The fabric is see-through thin and it's slightly oversized and I plan on wearing it knotted at the waist with a tank underneath.

Poppy purse spray: 26.50
Ok, who says all the budget has to spent on clothes? I had a coupon from Coach, so I bought one of the least expensive things in the store I could find, a purse sized bottle of "Poppy"...Hey it's a flower.

Total remaining: 43.86 ( gotta be careful next month) 

Asian Leopard Dressing

     Can you read my shirt? I can’t. For all I know it says, “kick me” but when I spotted in one of my favorite thrift haunts, I couldn’t resist it. I love clothes with exotic logos and markings. It’s a tank top, something for summer, but I wanted to wear it now. I knew right away what I would pair it with so could. Leopard! A leopard turtleneck to be exact. Seriously, is there anything that an animal print won’t go with? I’m pretty proud of the thrift factor 57 %. The ring has a story behind it. I’ll share in another post.

     The scene:  A little old abandoned church. I pass it often on the way to work,  always intending to stop, but never really having the time. So, this particular weekend, while Stephen and I were out and about, not only did we stop, but took some pictures too. I think it’s quite charming even in its run down state, don’t you?  So, when you’re out this weekend I hope you get a chance to check out what’s behind those gates or on the other side of that tall wall or that curious little thrift store that’s been calling your name. Oh, and be sure to take pics, because I know you’re going to be looking fabulous when you do.

Pssst….The cargos I'm wearing, they’re actually slightly flared. I just folded them over a bit and then rolled them a couple of times to make a cuff. Not sure if you knew this trick or not. Try it. It works!

Do You Like My Necklace?

How do you like my necklace? What do you mean you don't see it? It's right there in my purse. It's blue, red and black stones. LOL. Yeah, that's right I forgot to put my necklace back on. This was sort of an impromtu photo shoot. Stephen and I were on one of our weekend jaunts and he pointed out the ancient train station and what a good backdrop it would make for photographs. I thought so to. Actually, this location is just the next town over, so you might see it again sometime. So, about the outfit. This is typical of my usual weekend gear. And can I just say, I love gray. I do. Does gray ever really fade? The more you wash it; it only gets, well....more gray. I get really tickled with myself when I can say my outfit has a thrift factor of at least 50%, which this one does. Best of all, it was comfortable, just what one needs when combing through thrift and antique stores. And yes, it's that purse again. Bear with me on this. I got it for Christmas and just love it to pieces. I have quite a few bags, but truthfully, I tend to stick with one at a time. It's so much trouble switching and inevitably something important gets left behind in the previous one. Like a wallet!

I love this dress/tunic. I can ball it up in a draw and it comes out wrinkle free.

Got this bracelet at an antique show, but I seriously doubt it's antique.

Guess where these boots came from? Target. Amazing! Target isn't a place I'd normally shop for boots. But when I saw them, I was pretty impressed. They're real suede and well made.
